From the moment you step inside at 1235 Athens St, you’re welcomed by warm, classic Southern hospitality that feels less like dining out and more like gathering at a dear friend’s home.

At The Carriage House, the cuisine is a celebration of Southern flavors and hearty comfort foods served in a family-friendly, inviting atmosphere. The buffet is rich with beloved soul food staples and innovative classics, ensuring every bite resonates with tradition yet excites the palate. Imagine the crispy, golden fried chicken with its perfectly seasoned crust, the melt-in-your-mouth collard greens simmered overnight, and the decadently creamy mac & cheese that blends sharp cheddar with a velvety smoothness. The array of sides—from buttery creamed corn and tender green beans to freshly baked corn muffins with just a hint of sweetness—offer a symphony of textures and tastes that feel both nostalgic and refreshing.

The Sunday Buffet is a crowd favorite and a true Southern feast, featuring country fried steak, hush puppies, fried okra, and fried catfish, alongside crowd-pleasers like chicken and waffles and a heavenly dessert spread featuring the iconic peach cobbler and fresh cookies. Their menu also boasts standout appetizers such as the Brandied Lobster Bisque and the Bch Signature Thai Calamari Bowl, which artfully combines sweet peppers, peanuts, and cilantro with a tangy sweet chili glaze—adding a refined, unexpected flair to the traditional Southern lineup.

Vegetable lovers are well-catered for, too, with sides like roasted asparagus, sautéed spinach, and a show-stopping wild mushroom and sweet pea risotto. Pasta enthusiasts will appreciate dishes such as Rigatoni with spinach, wild mushrooms, and chicken in a savory Delacour brandy sauce or the penne Bolognese, a rich melding of veal, pork, and beef balanced perfectly with roasted tomatoes and pancetta. Each dish is meticulously prepared, showcasing culinary skill and heartfelt care that you can taste in every bite.

The dining atmosphere enhances the experience—a casual yet polished space that exudes Southern charm, making it ideal for everything from intimate family dinners to lively group celebrations. Customers consistently remark on the warm, welcoming vibe that makes everyone feel at home. Lori Wynne perfectly captured this sentiment, noting how the moment she stepped through the door, “I was immediately covered in the warmest most welcome feeling.”

I am absolutely blown away with this place. There are so many awesome things to say about The Carriage House that I don't know where to start... I'm going to just dive in! First, the location. The setting is gorgeous and absolutely screams WELCOME to our place. From the moment I stepped foot inside I was immediately covered in the warmest most welcome feeling. It didn't feel like a restaurant. It felt like exactly what it is, someone's former home that a new owner loves just as much. Speaking of the owner, what a privilege it was to meet him. He and his wife have done an outstanding job. You feel the love they have poured into this place. He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the home and tells it in an attention keeping way. The staff! The amazing staff. What wonderfully happy people! And I mean happy, so happy they make you happy. Every single person I passed had the best attitude and smiled not because it was their job, but because they were happy to be there. Another compliment to the owners for properly training your staff. The food!! If you can ... Imagine sitting down to the memories of what your grandmother's Sunday meals tasted like. That's the best description I can give. I hope they get recognized for their fried chicken. It was delicious!!! Seasoned, breaded and fried to perfection. A must try! Tons of delicious desserts and ice creams. The house! You just have to experience it. If you are a history buff, this is your place! They have restored and revived the house. The decorations are beautiful and fun to just walk around and look at. This place is an experience I'd highly recommend! And it's budget friendly! They will be open for Thanksgiving and we're already planning our spot at the table!!

We celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday here and my uncle's 68th. The space was perfect for the guests we invited. Overflow was able to go right out a door from the rented room onto an outdoor patio where there was more seating. Our server Julie worked by herself to attend to more than 50 people and she kept a smile on her face the entire time. Our glasses stayed full and stayed attentive. If you're looking for an intimate space with kind staff this is the place.

The food was great, and normally when we go the service is excellent. This particular time that this popped up asking me to review the service was some of thr worst we have ever had. Not once were we asked if we needed anything, our dirty dishes were not taken off our table, we got offered no refills on drinks. To add insult to injury the supposed waitress actually went to every table but ours with a pitcher of sweet tea filled anyone who wanted it but walked right by us and didn't fill my husband glass and didn't even ask. She also was out taking everyone's dirty dishes off their tables as they got more food and just walked by our table about 8 times. Wish I remembered het name. With that being said if you go on the weekend and if Jonathan is working he is one of rhe best waiters I have ever had anywhere. That young man is freaking awesome.
